ADWALTON MOOR

Some of you may have been concerned by an article in the Morley

Observer which quoted English Heritage as saying that the consider the moor, and the battle site to be at risk from future planning encroachment.

Following is the text of an email which the Parish Council has sent to English Heritage:

Sir,

In a recent issue of our local newspaper (The Morley Observer / Advertiser 9th July 2008) we were very alarmed at the lead article that refers to the "Decline of the Moor" by English Heritage's Paul Stamper. As an extremely active Parish Council who has been looking after the Moor for many years in conjunction with both the owner and Leeds City Council,we consider Adwalton Moor to be "The Jewel in the Crown" of Drighlington and will therefore endeavour to protect it from both development and incursions.

To this end we would welcome any suggestions or help you could offer.

Yours faithfully

Arthur Thornton (Chair)

Drighlington Parish Council”

This email has been acknowledged by English Heritage and discussions between them and the Parish Council are expected to follow in the not too distant future.

A dialogue has therefore been opened with a view to joint action in the future to protect the Moor if and when it becomes necessary
